Brie’s Fun Run- a Huge Success!

A few months ago, I approached the Hughes about trying to do something to help their daughter, Brie.  Brie suffers from an illness that has caused numerous limitations in her life.  Brain tumors have caused her to lose her sight, leaving her legally blind.  Her processing and cognitive reasoning have also been affected.  Anyway, there was no way I could sit and remember all that was not done for Mara and not want to do something to help Miss Brie.  So I teamed up with Alana and she came up with the idea of a fun run.

The school and PTSA got on board with our idea and it ended up being a huge success!  We sold t-shirts and had well over 100 people come run the race, probably 200+ people in attendance at the event.  There were face painters, hair-cutters, balloon-creators.  Some ladies sold concessions and crafts.  And since it was only one mile lots of people were up to the task of “going the extra mile for Brie.”

As I walked up the stairs this particular night to start setting up, I said a little prayer in my heart.  I prayed for Mara to help me.  I prayed that she would be there.  And you know what? Somehow I felt her little hand guide me up those stairs.  And somewhere in all the hustle and bustle of the crowd, she was there and she was happy to know that someone else knows what it feels like to have so many people love her.  I hope Brie had fun and that she knows that she has some friends!

A huge thank you to Alana for all of her hard work.  I could have never, never done all of this by myself!  Also to all those who attended, donated or otherwise contributed, I think you made a little girl feel pretty darn special!

Thanks to Diane and Nikki for some of the photos.  We love you Brie!  We hope and pray that your doctors are let to the right treatments for you and that your life is full!
